WOODSIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
The peaceful rural township of Woodside, nestled in the Adelaide Hills, lies east of Adelaide and is around a 30-minute drive via the South Eastern Freeway and the Onkaparinga Scenic Drive.
Woodside offers a great mix of pubs, galleries, shops, antique and second-hand stores, and cosy cafés, along with nearby winery cellar doors including Artwine, Barristers Block Wines, Bird in Hand, Simon Tolley Wines and Petaluma Wines, to name just a few. A popular country market is held on the third Saturday of every month. Tucked away behind the main street and just off the Amy Gillett Trail, you’ll find the much-loved Woodside BMX Track, also known as “Woody Trails” (helmet recommended!), as well as a charming community garden.
Just beyond Woodside’s main street is Heritage Park, a former dairy factory that now houses both Woodside Cheese Wrights and Melba’s Chocolates and Confectionery. At Melba’s, visitors can watch a working factory in action, complete with vintage equipment and friendly staff producing an irresistible range of sweet treats available for tasting and purchase. At Woodside Cheese Wrights, you can sample and buy artisan cheeses, or even book a class to learn the art of cheese making.
Woodside is also part of the Hills Sculpture Trail and is home to the striking marble sculpture Co-Existence, created by Italian sculptor Francesco Panceri.
